Diane Dings & “Maia”
When Diana Majka read the “found Samoyed
puppy” ad in her Northern Michigan newspaper this February, she knew she
needed to investigate. The 3 month old was found puppy sleeping in
a snow bank. Nobody claimed her for 20 days. When Diana arrived at the
woman’s trailer she saw a frightened, filthy puppy crawl out from under
a junk car and told her husband, “We are not leaving here without that
puppy.” Diana contacted Melissa Howell from Samoyed Assistance Organization
of Michigan. Melissa screened nearly 100 applicants looking the “perfect
home. “Maia” now lives with her Samoyed “sister” and “little brother” and
a “funny brown spotted dog” with Diane and Bruce Dings. |

Beth Dunnavant & Riker
“Riker” came to Beth & Mark in August
1997, shaved to the skin and looking. He had been a stray in the pound,
adopted once and returned 17 days later. He was fostered by Lori and Brad
Morris, Those first days with Riker were very trying. Because Riker
scared her, Beth decided not to keep him so she logged onto SamFans and
started reading stories much worse than his. Beth now knew she could change
both his and her life with love and patience. Instead, HE changed
her life. Beth cannot imagine not having him sharing each day with her.
“Riker” was diagnosed with “VKH” about 2 years ago but is doing extremely
well. He is happy and friendly, loves to kiss and LOVES his stuffies! |

Lou Ann & Charlie Eline &
“Nika”
Originally an outside dog, “Nika” was rescued
by Carol of the Tarheel Samoyed Club and briefly fostered by Kristen. Beth
Donnavant brought “Nika” to her home in Virginia and then to Danielle's
house in Maryland. Merrilee Scarnegie came to town with the “Pet Expo”and
offered MidAtlantic Samoyed Rescue a booth for rescue. It was at the “Pet
Expo” that the Eline family met and fell in love with “Nika”. 5 year old
Brittney was the powerhouse of the decision process, she just had to have
“Nika” Nika is happy, spoiled and loved beyond imagination......just as
she deserves. |

Christopher & Candy Breeze &
“Katie” & “Casper”
“Katie” was rescued from Pittsburgh.
She had been neglected and abused and was saved from a Kill shelter.
Christopher received “Katie” from MidAtlantic Samoyed Rescue.
“Casper” had been dumped at a shelter in
Bridgeport New Jersey. There has never been a sweeter or happier
dog on earth than “Casper”. Candy also received “Casper” from MidAtlantic
Samoyed Rescue.

Rich Malanaphy & “Baby”
Fall of 1997 “Baby” was found in a shelter
in Jacksonville Florida, and taken to a local vet's office. It took over
a month for her to be released. What the vet thought was a heat cycle turned
out to be a serious bladder infection. Rich took her from that vet's office
to his own vet 5 hours away where she was given proper care. It took a
few months and hundreds of dollars to bring her back healthy and happiness.
She is the proud matriarch of Rich's rescue home. She has greeted every
rescue that has stopped in for a visit with gracious enthusiasm and loving
care. |

Lindy (& Cody, Alec, Tori and
Remy) Mezebish & “Frank”
“Frank” was a stray found running loose
by a neighbor of Jeanne's from MidAtlantic Samoyed Rescue. Because of his
blue eyes he was named “Frank”. He was adopted by Lindy and family
who fell in love sight unseen. “Frank” has been in trouble since..... his
escapades include "playing with" a rabid critter causing the family
to have to undergo rabies shots and he has even turned 3 acres into
an 18 hole golf course. Worse, he stole granpas teeth and buried them somewhere.
Frank? Where are granpas teeth???
Well, he must have dug grandpa's teeth back
up for a bit more play – Cody found them about 3 weeks ago! Ya whoo! |

Donna & Chip Evans & “Di”
“Di” and her son “TJ” spent a year crated
in the basement with 3 short potty breaks a day until the owners were persuaded
to allow rescue to rehome them. The dogs were blamed for the human
child’s allergies. When “Di” first entered foster care she had to
be leashed and removed from the basement if she got down there and had
to be taught that she was allowed more than 5 minutes in the yard.
“Di’s” other 2 problems were age (8 years old) and the fact that her body
no longer produced tears and the medication is expensive. Chip &
Donna were looking for a special dog that would get along well with their
other previously abused rescue “Shannon”. It was love at 1st sight
when they met “Di” and she is living happily ever after! |

Ginger LaPlante & “Daniel”
Last August a shelter in West Virginia took
in a Samoyed pair and their family of young pups. The pair had been
bred to feed a drug abuser’s habit. One day momma and daddy took
off with the seven 4 ½ week old pups in tow, hoping for a better
life. Mom had a shock collar imbedded in her neck, was so covered with
fleas she was weak from blood loss, but continued to nurse her babies.
On their journey, 2 pups were hit and killed by a car. Once at the
shelter, another was put down due to life threatening ringworm infestation.
Nancy Bender of Buckeye Samoyed Rescue in Ohio collected the family and
Deb Martin, fostered them. Ginger “Daniel’s” forever mom promises
a future of Sammy fun in the country of New Hampshire. |

Shellie Pyles & “Tattoo” Handled by
Clu Carradine
This 9 yr. old Samoyed American Princess
was purchased from a Doktor's Pet Store in California as a puppy.
Her family cared for her for 8 years. Then, they grew tired of the
responsibility and shoved her off on their adult daughter. “Tattoo” was
boarded for a year at the vet's clinic where the daughter worked, until
she left that job, leaving “Tattoo” homeless and slated for euthanasia
rather than a trip to the shelter. Fortunately, the daughter contacted
Denise Newell of San Francisco Samoyed Rescue, who arranged for “Tattoo”
to come to Pyles Of Smiles Samoyed Rescue. “Tattoo” was fostered by Alan
and Sherry Straughsburg. She is on her way, via this National and Clu Carradine,
to her Forever Home in Ohio. Yeaaaaah, “Tattoo”! |

Dave & Carol Hoglund & “Jordan”
“Jordan” was one of 3 wild, filthy, untrained,
and unsocialized 8 month old pups that Ellen of MidAtlantic purchased from
a backyard breeder in Baltimore with help from Samfans Jim McLea and Elizabeth Matej to prevent the breeder from selling them to a puppy mill.
“Jordan” was the most outgoing – a real live-wire with too much personality
for most people. Dave and Carol had just lost their old boy. Dave
was ready for “Jordan” but Carol was still in mourning. The following
week was the National in Wisconsin so “Jordan” needed a place and Dave
and Carol agreed to foster him that week. That did it! Now Carol wouldn't
part with him for a million bucks!! |
