Sarah & Nat Bassett  “Spike”
“Spike” was picked up by County Animal Control in MD on several occasions. The owners got tired of paying the fines so left him there and MidAtlantic found out about him.  He was picked up on a Friday afternoon, matted, dirty and smelling horrible. MidAtlantic Samoyed Rescue had set up a rescue booth at the Pet Expo in Timonium MD that weekend, THANK YOU Merrilee and Ken Scarnegie!!  “Spike” came, Merrilee lent her grooming table and Spike’s transformation began. Sarah, Nat & their 3. He was neutered the following Tuesday and went home with them Wednesday to live happily ever after.
Ed & Deborah Haynes & “Oliver”
This past 4th of July Debbie and Ed decided that for the first time in their 20 + years of marriage they would go to see the fireworks.  On the way there they found a Samoyed running in the road terrified and of course picked him up.  They brought him to Mid Atlantic Samoyed Rescue where they tried to find his owners.  When the owners were found the next day, it was discovered that “Oliver” was 10 years old and petrified of fireworks and thunder.  The owners decided that Oliver was a hassle and that they didn't "need" him anymore.  Debbie & Ed quickly got all his paperwork and took him home forever. Oliver fits into the family like an old shoe and will be loved and cherished for the rest of his days.
A special thank you to Debbie for making all the tote bags for the participants in the parade and for donating toys and treats to fill them.

Snoopy was one of four dogs rescued from a puppy mill and placed in a shelter in Ohio. Although he was only four years old, he had been abused and injured as a puppy and was going to be euthanized because he appeared to have a permanent back injury. Buckeye Samoyed Rescue got Snoopy out of the shelter. It turned out that one of his hips had been thrown out of it's socket and had created another socket. The vet said because this occured years ago, it was best to leave it as it was. Snoopy runs stiltedly but loves running with other dogs. Despite his treatment in the puppy mill, he is outgoing and friendly. The Sammy Angels paid for Snoopy's medical care. Snooy is available for adoption from Buckeye Samoyed Club.
Emi & Mark Kooyman & "Olsen"
"Olsen" was the casualty in a divorce. He is 7 ½ years old and came to North Carolina Rescue heartworm positive, shaved to the skin & with razor burns. In the words of his foster parents Emi & Mark Kooyman, "Olsen" is about the nicest, most gentle, docile creature they have ever met. He does not complain, is not pushy with his food and doesn't mind his crate. He doesn't even make a sound or resist during the many, many baths he has had to be give for his skin. We hope that people can see through the fact that he's an ugly duckling right now. He has such a wonderful, mellow, easy-going personality. Originally he was a little recluse, not coming to get petted nor for treats. He slept through all the ongoings in the house. After a month of interaction and attention, he got a brand new personality & has clued into all he missed during his first 7 years. He now knows what "walk" means, which cabinet holds his treat & that the sound of the can opener means dinner. "Olsen" shows the signs of aging, getting up slowly and taking a lot of time to stretch. He can't hop into the back of a pickup truck and is not an early riser. He enjoys his walks and drives in the car. We would really like "Olsen" to find a good home, since he has been short-changed for so much of his life. He certainly has not given up on us humans, and so we need to make sure we do not let him down.

 Jo Robinson & "Torie"
"Torie" was rescued by Jo from the shelter and taken directly to the vet who diagnosed a massive ear infection, kennel cough and at least six mammary tumors. The kennel cough worsened to pneumonia, the tumor biopsies were malignant and she was also diagnosed with arthritis of the spine. She needed a radical double chain mastectomy to remove all tissue. The Sammy Angels were contacted and "Torie" became a Sammy Angels Dog. "Torie" had her surgeries, both spay and mastectomy. Upon spaying, the uterus was found to be several times the proper size and the ovaries were covered with cysts, indicating she had been used and abused by over breeding, then discarded when she was too old and sick to be bred anymore. After this massive surgery "Torie" started to bleed. The vet used their Champion Black Lab for the blood transfusion, so we now look forward to black coat showing up on "Torie". We originally decided to name her "Victoria" or "Torie" for short. After all she has been through, her name has been changed to "Victorious!" Now a happy girl, "Torie" will go anywhere and do anything. She has stolen in our hearts. We want to profusely thank the Sammy Angels for their generosity. Without them, "Torie" would not have her new lease on life. "Torie" is available to a VERY special home.
