Results! Herding on Sunday

Results? Already? Yes! We had a herding test/trial on Sunday. Since we didn’t "fill the slate" with the Sammies that entered, we allowed other breeds to enter and had some takers.

Cathy Modica, who breeds, shows and herds with her Belgian Tervurens, judged 9 Sammies for the 1st leg on their HCT (Herding Capability Tested) titles. The first leg is a basic instinct test. Seven of the nine passed and the two that didn’t were encouraged to try again on a cooler day! Cathy was very impressed with our breed and encouraged all to continue herding. There was also one Sammie that passed the 1st leg of the next level title JHD (Junior Herding Dog). Robin Clark did a wonderful job with her girl Leah. Those passing the 1st leg were:

All participants were given a booklet describing the HCT & JHD, a small roll-over treat and a participant Ribbon & SCA2003 pin.

Those passing got nice rosettes and a small resin sheep.

After the testing, Jake, owned by Ann & Jan Schlobohm, gave a quick demo showing all that herding is still the love of his life at 10-1/2.

Weight Pull results

We missed listing the following rewards from our Sanctioned Weight Pull that was held on Tuesday night.

Top Weight Pulled - AKC Ch UKC GRCh UWP Ch Nirvana Chosen One O' SnoBliz CGC HCT-s "Leah" owned by Robin Clark, pulling 1,052 lbs

Top Percentage Weight Pulled - Moonstars Primadonna CD OA OAJ WSX CGC "Kim" owned by Kathy Buckner, pulling 945 lbs - 21.48% of her weight.

Trailblazers Rumor Has It WSX, owned by Debbi and Bob Sencenbaugh won Top Weight Pulled by a Veteran and Top Percentage Weight Pulled by a Veteran, pulling 839 lbs - 19.51 time body weight.

Congratulations to these dogs and all the dogs that pulled in our competition!

Herding on Monday

Another HOT day – it was 105 on a temperature sign. We had 3 dogs test for the 1^st leg of the HCT, 2 passes (Lynette Sylvester and Prize and Novia & Yan Vincze with Geacy). Six tried the 2^nd leg of the HCT – unfortunately with the heat and a tough judge (fair, but tougher), no one passed today. However, all learned what they needed to work on and with some training all could pass next time. Those attempting were: Sheri Hudson & Nikki, Robin Clark & Molly, Lorraine Durbiano & Kodi, Ginger Jenks & Rory, Peter Davis & Katie & Staker. Robin Clark & Leah did earn their second JHD leg and the title JHD-s. Sheep were good, judging was fair, weather was just too darn HOT!!

Ann, Jan & Jake and the SCA2003 committee want to thank all that participated. Keep up the HERDING!!

Agility

Agility at SCA2003 started Saturday and Sunday with our All Breeds Agility trial only 10 minutes from our host hotel. Thanks to all our local and interstate Sammy people who came and volunteered. Our trial ran smoothly and helped raise money for Sammy Rescue.

12 Samoyeds ran each day in both the Standard and Jumpers classes gaining many new titles. Congratulations to Lia Benson and Indy, Ginger Jenks and Rory, Delores Ballard and Rainee, Jean Moore and Haley and Diane Dotson and Candy on their new titles. Congratulations also to all the other Samoyed qualifiers over the weekend.

We look forward to running another All Breeds trial the same week-end next year in Southern California. Again, we hope to raise much needed money for rescue and/or research.

On Tuesday we will hold our Samoyed only Agility trial in the grass field adjacent to the RV parking (the Meadow). This promises to be a fun morning and we look forward to seeing you all there starting at 9:00 A.M.

Obedience Results
